From vinyl to Vegas

We're still working on getting our vinyl designs into picture form. Some of these computer programs are so hard. If you see others selling vinyl on Etsy, the presentation of the wall words, wall art, etc. looks so professional. It looks like they hung the vinyl in there own (beautiful) homes and took a picture of it when they really took a stock photo and layered their design in. It's not easy trying to figure out how to do it.UGH!

Anyway, some good news. Twin and I are going back to Vegas, baby! Her bosses are taking us again in September and we are hoping Cher doesn't cancel this time. We will also see Donny and Marie because their show is awesome and have a spa day. Once we get our business up and running we're going to need it. The Twins

Is anyone famous from your town?

Walt Willey (Jack) and Jill Larson (Opal) from All My Children, were in town this weekend to do the "Odd Couple" play. Walt is our little towns famous person. He was born and raised here and graduated from our High School. LOL They're trying to get a theater going in our town.
Twin and I thought about going but we were too busy figuring things out for our business. I also think we would have been more tempted to go if the $30.00 tickets included a meet and greet after but the meet and greet was held at a downtown bar for an additional $20.00. We have watched All My Children for years. Now if he comes back next year and brings Erica (Susan Lucci) we'll have to go for sure!!
Do you have anyone great or famous from your town?

WIN FREE VINYL WALL ART

We are trying to get our business turned around in a different direction. We are BEGGING all of you to look and see if you may have a nursery pictures, living room, fireplace, bedroom , foyer, kitchen, child' room, teenage child's room (just about any room in the house, and yes, even the bathroom!) that you could send to us. The less stuff on the walls the better. My house is still under construction so we can't use mine. Fran hasn't had a baby in diapers in 16 years so no nursery pictures.

Why we need these pictures is because we need to import (not sure if that is the right word) our designs into them. So like if we took Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and made it out of vinyl to put on your wall you could see what it might look like above the crib or changing table. Gives you an idea of what it may look like in your home. Or perhaps FAMILY above the fireplace. I have searched the internet for HOURS with no luck. Most of the nursery pictures were taken at an angle and I want the crib dead on.

What ever pictures we choose we will give away vinyl from our shop or perhaps you have saying you would like us to make for you. THANK YOU.

Why do you blog?

Why do you blog? Did you have a certain reason or goal when you started? Did you just want a connection with other moms? Are you disappointed that it wasn't all that you thought it would be or are you lovin' it?

Twin and I started blogging (she set us up A LOT sooner than I wanted, she's the computer wiz) because we visited other blogs and felt odd writing comments without having one of our own. We don't keep up well with ours because she is busy with a major reno on her house and I don't know how to down load pictures so I have to wait for her to do it. (See, I told you we started too soon!) A blog reminds me of pen pals. Remember them? Even my children had pen pals as a part of their English class in 4th grade. It was someone you would get to know thru writing and exchanging pictures. I thought it was fun. Blogging lets you get to know people you will probably never meet but still have a connection with. Mostly blogging should be fun and not work.

There are some that have been around a long time. I only heard of blogging about a year ago!! There are big blogs and there are small blogs. There a some that want to peddle their wares and get a bunch of advertising because their goal is to make money. O.K. by me. I just don't like blogs that are so full of advertising that you have a hard time finding their post. Or those blogs that are just full of themselves. We all have the option of just not visiting them. Especially if you are a faithful commenter and they don't seem to give you the time of day. Don't take it personally, move on. Some have so many commenters that they can't possibly get to everyones blogs every day and that should be understood. Others will never come by your blog because they aren't out to make friends, only to make a small living.

Just be true to yourselves and why you started blogging in the first place. If you are a new mom that likes to post pictures of your little one daily then do so. If someone doesn't like it (which is a rude thing to tell someone) don't change what you are doing. It's your blog and there is no right or wrong about it.

Hasn't it been fun to connect and learn from people of all ages? We have young women just starting out on their own to those who are grandmothers and great-grandmothers. They all have something worth reading.

I know we have come to LOVE our followers and when they haven't posted for a few days we wonder if they are okay. You start to think of them as family. The most IMPORTANT thing about blogging is to Just Enjoy!!

It started with a dream...

It started with a dream...
Once upon a time there were twin sisters that decided to have a business together. "What kind of business should we have?" asked 5 minute older twin. They thought and thought and thought about something they would love to do. "I know," said 5 minute younger twin, "What about a vinyl business?" "You're a genius!" said 5 minute older twin. That's how their story began...

5 minute older twin researched and ordered everything they would need. They were so excited when the vinyl machine arrived and watched patiently as their hubbies put it together. With everything hooked up they checked out the software. After a few minutes they just looked at each other as they felt the wind go out of their sails a bit. "I think it looks like it's in Japanese." said the 5 minute younger twin. "Now what?" Well, 5 minute older twin is really the genius and EVENTUALLY she figured it out 'cause she's smart like that. HA! They were happy twins.

They started making lots of pretty things with the vinyl machine only to find out 5 minute younger twin couldn't get them to stick to the tape without help. Only the white vinyl would work. 5 minute older twin found sisters online that have a vinyl business and they suggested a different kind of tape. (So much for the small fortune they had wrapped up in the 3 rolls they already purchased. They figured it was a lesson learned) The new tape arrived and still the same problem. They decided to make signs using vinyl because 5 minute younger twin could lift the letters herself. 5 minute younger twin wasn't lovin' all the painting, sanding, repainting, fighting with the stupid tape, etc. They both felt their dream had gone in another direction from what they had wanted when they first started their business. 5 minute older twin suggested calling the sweet sisters back (after months of frustration) and ask them a few more questions. Those sisters are the sweetest, most helpful ladies you will ever know. Come to find out, WE STILL HAD THE WRONG TAPE!! While 5 minute older twin does all the ordering, 5 minute younger twin did not get mad that they spent all those months suffering. She is such a forgiving soul. HA! Don't forget, 5 minute older twin called her a genius. (Incase you're wondering it's that genius that is writing this post.)

Anyway, their new tape is on it's way and the possibilities are ENDLESS! They are going into more of the WALL ART. Their Etsy shop will be completely different and they are so excited. 5 minute older twin and 5 minute younger twin ( the genius) will live happily ever after.

P.S. If there is anything you would like to see in our Etsy shop please let us know. THANKS

Couple more Questions

Does anyone know the name of these fonts?

Just a quick question. Does anyone have Photo Shop and if you do could you please email me. I want to purchase some software for the business and I am not for sure what to buy. I need something where I can use the same picture and insert different things. Like we do wall words and instead of putting every wall word on the wall for a picture and then taking it off and doing another picture I need a software that will let me change the wall word but use the same picture. I'm probably not explaining myself very well so I will email samples to whom ever can help. Thanks,

Race for a cure

My daughter and her husband are trying to raise enough money to participate in a marathon for leukemia and lymphoma, which will be held in San Francisco this October. My husband (Fran) is in remission since his lymphoma diagnosis in Febuary of 2007. Luckily he felt a lump on his inner thigh while drying off after a shower. Did you even know you have lymph nodes there? After an antibiotic didn't reduce the size, he had a biopsy done. The doctors were amazed that he had felt it and after cat scans, a bone marrow test, blood work, and treatement they feel it was contained in just one lymph node. We were fortunate to find it early because he had no symptoms. He still has to do cat scans and blood work but everything looks good.

If you would like to donate to the Leukemia/Lymphoma fund to help Brad and Missy reach their goal and be able to participate in the marathon this October you can go here Thank you to those who are able to donate. For those who are unable, please pray for a cure.

A whole lot of paintin' goin' on

The pictures aren't the best but this is The Woolie. It's used to achieve a marbleized look.
I have this on several of my walls in my home and have helped multiple people do it in their homes because everyone seems to love it. My biggest job was helping my best friend because she has high ceilings in her greatroom. When the guy came over to check the hardwood floors she had installed in her home, she said he barely looked at them because all he could talk about was the walls.
Twin has inset ceilings where the island is going to be and in the diningroom and livingroom. Well, after painting my kids bathroom all day, I get a call from her telling me it's not looking right and could I come help.
Once you get going it's not hard. You choose at least 3 paint colors in the same family. Here we have an off white, tan and brown. You can do this paint treatment over any painted surface, even if the walls are hot pink. It will cover.
Once you get your colors up, in no certain order, you blend them with the main brush and then pat it all with The Woolie.
The colors will bend together and look what we call marbelized. You can add more of one color as you're doing it and just blend it in.
The results are really cool. Like I said, it just doesn't photograph well. Enlarge pictures to get a better look.
I got the area above the island done and just a start on the rest. This by far is the messiest (thankfully their floors aren't in yet) and hardest job I've done yet. I think I may have a permanent kink in my neck. We'll show you the job when it's complete. For now, I'm off to soak in a nice warm bath...
