Spec Home

No, this isn't a prom post but it is part of the story so bear with me. By the way, isn't my son handsome?LOL His date wrapped his car in plastic wrap along with a poster asking if he would go to prom with her. They're just friends.
A girl in the group's mom works for a company building homes and condos down by the river so we were able to take pics in a spec house. I LOVED IT. I didn't think about taking pictures of the house til the end so I don't have every room. Here my son is with his older sis on the swing in one of the bedrooms. She is just a spit...not quite 5 foot. Ain't she pretty?LOL
A local artist drew the tree. What child wouldn't love this bedroom?
Here's the other side of the room. This is the loft bedroom when you first come up the stairs. The other bedroom I showed you is to the left and there is another bathroom. The opening overlooks the great room.
These homes were built in the hopes of people using them for their summer homes. This one is around $550,000.00! I liked it but it was a bit boxy. I loved the furniture and the rug. I checked the rug and it came from Pottery Barn.
The great room and kitchen are all in one. The master bedroom, entry and basement were very nice too, I just didn't get any pics of them. I loved so many things about this house, just not the price!

Show Us Where You Live Friday (Master Bedroom)

Kelly is having a show me your master bedroom today. I'm actually re-doing some things in my master bedroom. Here I have made curtains out of muslin and just love them. I also added chocolate brown, jute shades from Target. I took this picture before I added them.

I love the monogram above the bed. Just some frames, scrap book paper and vinyl lettering.

Here's one close up.

I got this piece at Farm and Fleet of all places on clearance. It was 1/2 off. I'm not thrilled with what is in it and I need to work on it.

My bedroom set is by Jaclyn Smith. I like the idea of having drawers in the armoire on either side of the spot for the t.v. I think we purchased it about 8 years ago. Now of course everything is the flat t.v.'s and armoires aren't used so much.

Fern was the photographer today and she thought you should see close ups of what's on the armoire. I said "Don't bore the readers!" She said "Oh they'll love it." Remember she is the chattier twin and could make friends in the produce section at the local Kroger. Ha! I'm telling you I've seen her do it!

Love my cloches. The candle sticks came from Target. Again on clearance and were cheap.

The canvas is one of the first things Fern and I did when we started our business. I love the font on the word family. It's one of my favorites. The picture is our boys when they were younger.

Thanks for stoppin' by. Have a Happy Weekend.

The "Little Black Table"

Pat from Back Porch Musings blogged about a little black table she had purchased. It just happened to be one I was looking at for some time. Today it was on sale for $99 so I grabbed it. I am going to put it in the foyer when it is finished. It's from JCPenny if you want one for yourself. It's called the Collins table.
I just LOVE it!

OH DEER!!

Last Sunday a doe ran through our side yard. It's not that unusual as we are outside the city limits and have a small amount of woods near us. I was in the front yard and watched her. Once she got to the neighbors across the street she stopped. I think she was thinking about coming back until a van came by. Then she ran into the woods behind the neighbors house. My MIL lives next door and had watched the doe as she was in the backyard. Otherwise we never would have known she left us a surprise. Under my patio set was a little BAMBI. I didn't know what to do so I called Wild Animal Control. The guy on the phone was no help, he just told me a lot of people keep them and raise them. I was leaving for vacation that evening and we don't have a fenced in yard. I called the police and they said they couldn't do a thing for me. Where's the Animal Activists when you need them?

We waited 8 hours hoping that the mom would come back. In the meantime the baby didn't even move! We have seen foxes in the area and were afraid if we left the deer over night for the mom to come, it could be killed.

So, my SIL's uncle and his family came and got him. We think he was only about a week old. When he is old enough they will release him into the woods near their home. As you can see he is being well cared for and they love him. How many kids can say they have their own little Bambi?

Some Great Reading

I never would of chosen The Pillars of the Earth to read. It was given to me and if you haven't had the chance you really should pick it up. A very good read. I was really surprised.
When ever I am in the market for a book I go to half.com.
If you have never been you really should check it out. There is no bidding and you choose from the prices listed which one you want. I hate paying full price. I love to read but haven't really had much of a chance in the last year or so. Life has just been so busy. We will be going on vacation soon so I have a couple of books packed!

Now this is part 2. I have this one too but have not had a chance to read it. If have read these books let me know what you thought and if you haven't had a chance then try half.com to get the best price.

Todays post is brought to you by the letter W

W-for removal of wallpaper border that is. I'm working in the master bath this week. I'm staring with the wallpaper boarder. It came off so easy. I just tore it off, sprayed water on the backing that stayed and then used the back of a spatula to remove it. My wallpaper days are a thing of the past.

Now can you guess what is going up here instead once I paint where the paper was? I'll give you a hint...it will have lots of letters. It will be awhile for the big reveal 'cause I tend to do more than one project at a time. Does anyone else do that? Even when cleaning I end up in another room before I'm done with the one I started. Don't know why.

Here's the kids bathroom. I started in here last week. I've been wanting to paint the vanity but wasn't sure of the best black paint to use until I saw Dot's black cabinets over at Picket's Place. I just love the way it turned out. Makes it look so much richer I think.

I'm not sure what color I am going to paint the walls so I decided to tackle the master bath. Then again I should be packing as we are going away....I wonder why I do this??

Our Office-Creative Chaos!

My home office is used for our business.
This first picture shows the steps we take in making things. It's hard to see but first above the sign is how the vinyl looks when it comes out of the machine. Next is after it is weeded. Then you put transfer tape on your letters and then apply it.

Our office is in my bonus space above our garage. It isn't a very big space and we have basically used it as a computer room since we built our home 10 years ago. The floor plan to get to this room is not a good one. You go through the master bedroom and then the master bath to get to it. Yuck. But the room has come in very handy and I'm glad to have it.

Twin's husband built us this desk so we could work side by side! It came up in pieces and was then put together. Fern does all the computer work and I do the weeding, taping etc. Honestly, our office is usually messy. We work hard on orders and usually don't pick up right away. There is a lot of waste with all the cutting, weeding, vinyl backing etc. It's not unusual to fill the trash can a few times a day.

This is our vinyl machine. It took some time to figure out how to use the software but we love what we're doing...together. I'm sure there are some even cleaner, prettier offices to look at so go on over to Kelly's Korner and check them out.

Drop cloth, canvas, how about muslin?

I tried the drop cloth drapes in my bedroom like I've seen a lot of people have but they just didn't look right. I decided to try something lighter and actually seached WalMart and liked the muslin material. There were different types to choose from and I picked the Super Muslin fabric. At $2.47 a yard, it was a great deal.
I hemmed the bottoms with no sew glue and just folded the top over to the length I needed and hung them from drapery rings. I love the bamboo shades but I needed more privacy in the bedroom and wanted to be able to darken the room without closing the drapes as my husband works shift work and sometimes needs to sleep during the day. I got these jute roman shades in chocolate brown at Target and really love them.
I will be changing the bedding. I change things A LOT and it's easier to find bedding you love than to find nice drapes so that is one reason I went neutral on the windows. The muslin drapes will go with anything. Have a happy weekend.
